So I've been contemplating this post for a while now and after a recent beach session I figured I may as well get on with it.
Most of you should already know that I'm a mother to three crazy/awesome/wonderful kids. Some of you may also know that I dabbled in modeling and gogo dancing in my prime. But here's something that none of you know:
I've struggled with my body image issues through it all.
Let's take a look back, shall we? And please excuse the excess of skin, facial expressions, and vulgar hand gestures.

Sorry if I just made you throw up. Lol. Anyway, as you can see, my weight has fluctuated quite a bit throughout the years. It's been like that since the 8th grade but it still bothers me when I notice myself gaining weight.
Since having kids, I've gotten a little more of a belly than I used to have. I'm sure there are a LOT of other moms who will tell you - that pouch is damn near impossible to get rid of! At first I was disgusted with my body. Every time I saw myself in the mirror I would get depressed. I would cover up as much as possible and would be ashamed to wear a bathing suit in public.
It wasn't until I went back home to Hawaii and saw everyone and their mothers baring it all that I regained my confidence. I got back my "idgaf" attitude and started wearing monokinis, then got back into two piece bikinis.
No, I don't have a flat stomach and tiny waist, and yes, I do have some stretch marks - so what? I've never been a healthy eater (I love my bacon) and I'm not really an athletic person (is blogging a sport yet?) but I'm working on it!
Moral of the story: love yourself, no matter what. Body image isn't everything.

you look great! and it really is more about attitude than anything else and how you feel. i don't have kids, but i know that nearly no one's body is the same after having them. it's all about being healthy and evolving! have a great weekend!

Body image is a hard thing to "get over" for a lot of people. I know suffer from it ocassionaly. Right now, I'm uncomfortable, but it's not so much because of body image but more so because I've ragained 20 pounds and feel like crap. "Big" clothes are starting to get snug which means I either buy new stuff or I start working out again.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to EVERYTHING you just said ^^^up there^^^!
ReplyDeleteThe pooch is impossible.
I do love that any and everyone pretty much wears a bikini here, no matter their size or degree of stretch mark. I can hide in the crowd now instead of worrying that everyone is looking at my muffin top and stretch marks. :)
P.S. Looks to me like you get better with age :) You look STUNNING in your 2012-2013 pics.
DeleteGiirl! You're like wiiine! hehehe I can totally understand your body issues, because I still have my own, like thousands of other women out there, but I think you're being brave enough to write about it and to tell people: You what? It is OK not to be perfect, because perfection doesn't really exist. Women need to hear this! After three kids I'm sure MANY women would love to have a body like yours, and sure you have stretch marks for pregnancy, but there's are women who haven't even had kids and are dealing with those zebra strips (a.k.a Me!) That made me very very uncomfortable specially at such a young age, but nowadays I try not to care (unless it's in photographs) a few lines shouldn't define who I am. So keep it up girl! Just make sure you're eating well, with occasional indulging (that's healhty too! in moderation) and you'll be alright! Giant bear hugs to you! Speak you too soon! Mwahh! :)
ReplyDeleteMeow! Girl, you havent seen stretch marks until you see mine...im hardly working out so i cant bitch about the way i look right now...but shit by looking at your past and current pictures...you got me inspired to work my arse off...lol. i still havent seen any monokini with bust support to buy....grr.
ReplyDeletehave a great weekend love!

My body has changed so much over the years. I so wish it was as easy to lose weight as it is to gain it! (that's my husband's problem). But you are so very right, it is important for to feel comfortable in their skin no matter! While I will never be the weight I was in HS (or even college), I felt the most confident when I was around 117/118. Hoping to get down to that again:)
ReplyDeleteyour body will be forever changing but it's your attitude and personality that defines you. we've all gone through weight ups and downs but who cares! weight can change and i say work on things if you want to or need to but always love yourself :)
ReplyDeleteMy weight has also fluctuated over the years. You look great!!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful weekend!

Been there, done that, unfortunately or too many times. And here I am at 37 still having issues. I guess we never get cured. But we spend all our time and energy on just trying, right?
