Fucked Up Friday

WHAT A DAY! And it's only 1:22 p.m. so far! -_-

Okay, so yesterday I stayed home because I caught the cold/flu that my kids have. It was a pretty relaxing day at home with my kids, which was much needed. I bought strawberry and cream cheese Pillsbury Toaster Strudels the night before so we ate some for breakfast yesterday. The kids loved that they got to put their own icing on! I drank raspberry tea (which my son also tried and said was "dee-gus-ting"), we watched tv, played computer games, and had a pretty mellow day.

I started feeling better in the late afternoon and was even thinking of going in to the office to get a little done so I wouldn't be swamped today, but I decided to make a great dinner instead (grilled maple smokehouse style chicken).

So this morning I got up late (7:30 a.m. and I work at 8 a.m.) and was still feeling a little sick but decided to tough it out and go to work anyway. Because I wasn't in the mood to dress up and because it's casual Friday anyway, I put on my favorite jeans (a pair I stole from my sister, yes she's 18 and we're the same size in everything), a purple camisole (Joey picked it out), a lavender Roxy tank top I got at a local surf shop, and my purple boots (love them and got them for like $12 at Ross).

I finally got to the office at around 8:30 a.m. When I reached my desk I noticed that my chair had been moved to a corner but I figured the cleaners had moved it last night. I sat down at my desk and realized my computer was turned off (I usually leave it on), so I figured there must have been a power flux the night before which happens from time to time. So I didn't think anything of it and continued to turn my computer on. NOTHING HAPPENED. I tried again, same result. I checked the cords, unplugged then replugged it, NOTHING.

I decided to ask my coworkers if they knew why my chair had been moved and was told by Jade that they had moved it because they were trying to figure out why my computer wouldn't turn on (a bit of information that would have been more useful had it been given to me when I walked through the door). Anyway, so I decided to move my tower and try to plug it in through a different outlet in case the problem was just my outlet. Same result, but I noticed that when I tried to turn it on, the power lights would flash and then fade. I decided to just leave it alone for a bit and then try again (it was already 9:30 a.m. by this time) so I went to make myself some coffee. Jade walked passed and said she smelled something burning. IT WAS MY COMPUTER. You could smell the wires burning so we unplugged the thing and called the Tech.

Finally at 11:00 a.m. the Tech came in and said he would take my computer with him and hopefully have it back to me by Monday. In case you didn't know, I am a Legal Secretary and my computer is my LIFELINE! No computer until Monday is like shooting me in both legs. Well it just so happened that one of the attorneys switched out his system because he bought himself a brand new high-tech laptop so there was an extra computer tower in the office. (This is pretty funny because this attorney is very old school and hadn't had a computer until a few months ago, then he all of a sudden decided to buy the best laptop money could buy and he still doesn't know basic computer functions.)

Anyway, the Tech guy set up the old tower and said everything was working fine and that he would work on mine and let me know by Monday if it would be fixed. He walked out the door and I sat down and clicked "Mozilla Firefox" to check that I would be able to access the Court system. BLUE FUCKING SCREEN CRASH!!! Luckily he hadn't gotten into the elevator yet so I called him back in to fix the problem. He worked on it for about another 30 minutes or so and finally said that there was a problem with Windows on that computer. Super fail. He ended up switching that out for the super old, super slow computer which was the last one we had in the office. Success!

Well, I wouldn't call it much of a success since it takes me about 2 minutes to open a document, but at least I have a little trickle of my Lifeline back. I was supposed to post about the Pay-It-Forward Project this morning, but because of the shitty day I've had so far I just had to vent first. I'll post about the Pay-It-Forward Project from home later tonight when I have more time and a faster system. Hopefully I don't break that computer too. *Knocks on wood*

Later dolls! (*it irks me when people say this so this is meant to be sarcastic*)

  1. Hey DOLL!! ;D Yet another reason I HATE windows! Computers in general lol. I got the blue screen of DEATH wednesday...I had to get mine reformatted.
Burning wires...isn't that lovely. I hope they just get you a new computer...especially since you live on it. :D Please don't break your computer at home...then I'll have nothing to read from you when I'm on my road trip tonight.

  2. Lol, what's up DOLL?

Thank goodness my home computers haven't broken yet! But with everything that has happened this weekend, I would gladly trade a broken computer to reverse all the unfortunate events that have passed this weekend. :/
